Speaking of the Footie

It's fair to say that wifey is more than a little chuffed after watching her team annihilate their nearest rivals.  The Toon sent five past Sunderland and it could have even been more.  Well done to all concerned but I am particularly happy for Chris Hughton, who took a bit stick after going out of the Carling Cup to The Arse.  I think he's doing a super job and deserves a little more respect from all concerned.

Tight Fisted Tossers

A large group of kids (nationality withheld, but you can guess- fat, pasty, loud mouthed and used to dollars...  :o)) came and took over the front of the restaurant we were in last night and proceeded to have a grand old time. Then one of the group came up to pay the bill (we were nearby, watching the football and couldn't help but overhear) and insisted she wanted to only pay for her part of the bill.

The staff obliged, but then another turned up and demanded the same.  The manager sent her back to the table and and the waitress followed.  She must have spent half an hour trying to split the bill down for each of them, yet all we could hear from the table were comments about "hurrying up" as they had to leave quickly.

Excuse me?  You're the misers who want to split the bill and what's wrong with lobbing in your share and paying it all off in one go?  Who actually gets the waitress to calculate it down to the exact cent?

Horrible to watch such spoilt brats and cringe inducing to hear their ugly comments in this demure little town.  Not impressed.

Pub Street

There is indeed a road named "Pub Street" and it's a mere stumble up the road from us.  As you can gather it's the focal point for back packers, travellers and any others who like a lively atmosphere and most outlets pump out the local brew, Angkor beer at a ridiculous fifty cents per mug.  Yes, $0.50 a pop.

We road tested a couple of brews and found them to be most acceptable.  :o)

It Gets Cheaper

Directly next to our hotel is a little restaurant which we tried for lunch yesterday.  I had stir fried noodles with beef & vegetables, wifey picked hot and sour soup with rice.  The bill came to $3.50.  Yes, you read that correctly, three dollars and fifty cents.  Love it.
