One Dollar Equals?

The Atlantic takes a look at what the Yankee dollar is worth against other currencies, real or virtual.  Spread over the next few posts, here's the intro:

Survey the world's currency, from the new sleek pence pieces of Great Britain to the polychrome collage of Kazakhstan's paper notes, and something becomes clear. For the basic unit of global currency, the U.S. dollar is an utterly boring piece of art. Etched in gray and dull green, our bills are downright ashen compared to the vibrant papers and golden coins whose exchange define commerce around the world.

For our month-long report on money, the Atlantic wanted to take readers on a short worldwide jaunt, translating a $1 U.S. into more than a dozen currencies, from Argentina to Mongolia. We even looked up a dollar in new virtual currencies, like Facebook Credits and World of Warcraft Gold. Here's what we found*

*All exchange rates approximate as of 27th March, 2011, and many are subject to change dramatically in the next few months.
