After a few mild days, the weather will turn cold again at the beginning of January. Most areas will remain above freezing on Friday night forecasters are predicting and in the North East, which has been particularly hard hit by the Arctic conditions for the past month, temperatures will stay below average. Same, same for the Toon then.
Average temperatures for December were colder than they have been for more than 100 years, but in the past few days temperatures have been rising and readings are back to normal. London and the South West will continue to see maximum temperatures in double figures and even Scotland will get warmer weather of up to 9 C.
