Yesterday we spent almost the entire day meandering through all the never ending little side streets that lead off from the main (gigantic) boulevards. Traffic here is intense and many get around on scooters, but everyone obeys road signals and signs and it's all well mannered.
I'm sure it's not the case, but it feels like many of the the roads are one-way and you'll find pedestrian lights at pretty much every corner. However, waiting for them to change will usually tale a good couple of minutes. And all the lights, both for the pavement and for the road, display countdown timers to let you know how long you have.
Traipsing around in the heat for several hours is a tiring affair, particularly as you can't read any of the signs- they are all in Chinese characters and you have to almost go into the shop before you find out what it is selling or what its business is.
A good day out; we saw a lot and had plenty of exercise.
