Nearly one in ten people of working age will be unemployed in 2011, according to a bleak forecast of Britain’s labour market. The number of people out of work is predicted to soar by 200 000 to 2.7 million next year- its highest level for 17 years.
In total the unemployment rate will reach 9% from the current 7.9%, according to the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, with most of the job losses likely to come in the public sector..
Some 120 000 public sector jobs are expected to be axed over 2011– the equivalent of 330 jobs lost every day, including weekends and a further 80 000 workers in the private sector will also be made redundant in a year which the CIPD predicts will be "worse for jobs than 2010".
Now that makes grim reading. :-(
