Zach Braff - Scrubs
How he left: After its first few hit seasons, Scrubs was constantly considered “on the bubble,” unsure whether it would be renewed for another season. Yet repeatedly, NBC would, at the eleventh hour, bring the series back for another round. But after eight seasons, it was announced the show was ending for good, allowing writers time to give star Zach Braff and his central character J.D. the quirky-yet-sentimental send-off he deserved. J.D. decides to move away to be closer to his son, and on his last day of work, his mentor Dr. Cox finally admits he likes him, 40 of his past patients wish him well, and he exits daydreaming what his happy future will be like.
What happened next: Unfortunately, despite the episode being touted as the Scrubs series finale, the show was rescued for another year by ABC. Braff came back for six episodes, tarnishing the picture-perfect ending he was given by NBC. Braff’s next project is a switch of genre—the drama The High Cost of Living.
