Savong's School

Wifey was over there yesterday to teach Savong's younger brother the finer arts of book keeping so that any contributions can be traced and be publically visible.

It's very important to have good accounts not just for potential donations but also to satisfy governments' and legal requirements for their charitable status, and so she's helping there and will also do an annual audit to ensure transparency.  None of which will be a concern to Savong who ensures every penny goes to the school and kids, but if a job's worth doing...

Anyway, the day before, they had a drop in visit from some Singaporeans who had come out to visit the Orphanage and they asked Duncan what they needed.  He showed them around and they decided to help out by going off to buy sackfuls of toys for the children, stacks of first aid kits for the medical centre (which sounds grand but is really a cupboard) and food items, including a sack of rice.  They get through three sacks a week at $30 a go.

They were also horrified that the kids didn't have proper beds and so have made arrangements for them to sort this out and finally, they handed over $4 000 in cash to be used to help sponsor a couple of kids.

How utterly fantastic is that?  Completely out of the blue and much needed support and finances.

That is what giving is all about.  So have a think about what you could possibly do to help and make a donation here:  Savong's School and Orphanage
