German pharmaceutical giant Bayer has announced it was developing a drug to combat the dreaded double chin. A patient's double chin, sometimes called a “waddle,” would be reduced through injections of the compound ATX-101, which works by dissolving fat cells (known as adipocytes) while leaving surrounding tissue unaffected.
Bayer has started phase 3 trials on 720 patients around Europe and it is hoping to have the drug licensed for sale in Europe, Asia and Latin America by 2014.
