Checking our on-line accounts, we noticed a pending payment against our credit card.
We are very careful when using the card as it's an easy target for fraud and so always use it sparingly and then as a last resort. We certainly haven't used it during our trip through Myanmar (not accepted) or in the Philippines (far too risky) but we did offer it as a deposit for our current hotel.
As we usually do, once we're satisfied with the room and facilities, we always pay cash in advance for the stay (we like to clear our debts as soon as possible) and we paid for our week, getting a receipt. So why the outstanding amount on the card?
We enquired at Reception and were told that, yes, it was them as they "ring fence" an amount which will come up as pending until we clear the bill on departure and then it is cancelled.
OK, but having already paid up, why not clear it there and then?
Still, panic over- our card has not been compromised. :o)
