Kellie Martin - ER
How she left: Kellie Martin’s character, med student Lucy, was only on ER for a short time, but made a lasting impression. Lucy herself was divisive, too peppy and chipper, but developed an endearing chemistry with co-star Noah Wyle. A creative decision to write the character out of the show led to one of ER’s most famous episodes. A deranged patient stabs both Lucy and Wyle’s Dr. Carter. Carter is left incapacitated, forced to watch Lucy shocked, scared, and bleeding to death before his eyes. Lucy’s death scene ranks among the most devastating of ER’s many chilling moments.
What happened next: Lucy’s presence on the series was certainly not missed for long, but Kellie Martin remains one of the few ER co-stars able to develop believable romantic chemistry with Noah Wyle. (Maura Tierney may be the only other one.) And beyond a string of guest spots and TV movies, Martin’s career was never as bright as when she was on the highly-rated drama.
