Pakistani Cheats Banned

The International Cricket Council tribunal has found Pakistan cricketers Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir guilty of corruption.  Former captain Butt has received a 10 year ban, five suspended, Asif seven years, two suspended and Amir five.

The players were accused of spot-fixing in the fourth Test between Pakistan and England at Lord's last August, but have always denied any wrongdoing.   All three can appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Serves them right and why offer any kind of suspended sentence?  Their greed has tainted their former colleagues and will haunt the national side for ever more.  Mind you, Pakistan have never had a clean reputation anyway and I doubt they ever will.  Maybe it's time they stopped playing international cricket for five yearsand conducted a thorough roots level investigation ino all aspects of the sport.

Once they have cleaned up, then they could come back and start the slow rebuilding of their reputations?  No one is ever going to believe they are nothing more than cheats anyway, so what's the point of playing on? Kick out all the corruption, greed and old school tie brigade and start afresh.
