Met Plod put the wrong fuel in their cars 612 times in the last three years- costing the taxpayer more than £200 000.
An investigation revealed the Farce had to fix 282 of its 652 patrol cars, 52 fast response vehicles and 278 general purpose cars between 2008 and this year. It cost up to £1 400 to drain and replenish vehicles damaged after diesel engines were filled with petrol and vice versa.
