Another reason we sat outside of the Chinese bar/scoff joint (apart from the free peanuts which were bloody lovely) was that it was situated at a cross roads.
We sat watching people going by, traffic somehow getting over to the other side without loss of life of mechanical damage (and that has to be a minor miracle; no one looks in any direction aside from dead straight ahead, while leaning on the horn) and people washing themselves in the street.
Opposite the "pub" was a well and there were young lads soaping themselves down and pouring buckets of water over their heads in a make shift shower to keep clean/cool. It was so hot I was almost tempted to join them but the sight of my rotund pot belly is not a sight for the faint hearted.
