Following on from noticing trifling sum being withdrawn from our UK account, I rang the Nationwide fraud squad (we're on first name terms with both the senior manager and another colleague) and explained our situation.
I suggested that we hadn't been responsible for the withdrawal and needed to find out WTF was going on. I felt the small sum was a test to see if perhaps my cloned card worked and that someone may possibly be gearing up for a much larger withdrawal- the feeling was shared by the fraud guys.
I had two options- freeze the card while they looked into the transaction (even their screens could not fathom where the withdrawal had been made) or cancel the card and they would send us out new ones.
Problem.
My card is the only one that we can access our on-line account with and it's the only one we can use in the card readers to pay off third parties. Wifey was going to register when we got back to the UK but there was no rush as mine worked fine.
In the end I suggested that we start by temporarily blocking my card while they did an depth check on the details and let me know what they uncovered and that was how it was left. Me dangling and highly concerned, because we need our UK account available to us when we travel through India in a couple of weeks' time. If our cards needed to be replaced, we'd be stuffed. :-(
