I don't have the best of hearing any more, hat with Motorhead, wind noise pollution from bike riding and general old age, but I am having great difficulty in understanding the local English accent. It was fine in Goa but here it's noticeably different and I am struggling as it is very embarrassing to ask to have things repeated half a dozen times.
More confusingly as mentioned before, is the head waggle which looks like they are shaking their head while simultaneously smiling. A delightful and charming custom no doubt, but for numbskull travellers like me, it leads to huge misunderstandings as this head swaying does not mean no (for it definitely could) or yes (as is the norm, even if the can't do what you've asked) but it could denote maybe, perhaps, certainly/certainly not, I have no idea what you're talking about Mr Foreign Johnny, or I love you.
Still, it all adds to the adventure. What do you mean I wanted an extra chair, I ordered the chicken.
