The Louvre isn't the only place to see art. The Musée d’Orsay, a former railway station, houses a superb collection of Impressionist paintings. However, it has only recently admitted to their superbness. The museum’s previous director was replaced in 2002 after saying that he thought Impressionism was "overrated". The public (and the new director) don’t agree, and in peak tourist season getting a close look at a Monet can be as invigorating as winning a rugby scrum. Which is why those in the know make for a lesser-known, but equally magnificent Monet collection elsewhere in Paris...
An on-going, almost daily, commentary on our travel experiences, tips and thoughts as we arrive and live in countries and places most people can only dream of. Given time, we also like to take an off-beat look at what's been making the news back in the UK or locally and so we end up taking the piss... a lot.
