Never order a cappuccino. Empty seats on a Parisian café terrace aren't that unusual - maybe the locals are staying away because the price of a cup of coffee appears to include the cost of flying in Colombian farmers to grind their own beans, or because the waiter is well known for taking half an hour to decide he can be bothered to come outdoors. But if it’s in the sun, and you know how to order a coffee in real Parisian French, you can’t really go wrong.
By the way, that’s "un express" for an espresso, "un allongé" for an americano, and "un crème" for a café au lait (which Parisians don’t say). And don’t bother asking for a cappuccino – the last time I heard someone do that, the waiter replied, "you think this is - San Francisco?"
