Not everyone has the luxury of a telephone in their home and public phones are not a sight one sees too readily. The other option seems to be a picnic table set up in the street and a lady sitting behind it with what looks like her personal phone on an extension cable.
She then hires out her line to the public for some fee but she is always present while your call is being made, so young lovers may be in for an embarrassing time. :o)
It also makes me wonder who they're calling? If telephones are rare, is the other party situated at a similar set up in another street somewhere in Myanmar waiting for their call to come through?
