Utterly Brilliant Service

To cut costs, we transfer cash from New Zealand directly to Thailand so that we can use the ATM without fees that we would encounter using our UK account, and boy have the fees increased there.

Naturally we still have to cough for a transfer fee of NZ$25 (which is around £11, the Nationwide charges over £35...) but we tray and do it once every two months as opposed once a month and thus save at least one expense.

We also have a limit on how much we can send over, which is designed to protect our account security from rogue withdrawals but for our final return to Bangkok, (three months prior to returning to the UK in July) we need to go over our limit to avoid doubling our transfer fee.

I sent an email to our delightful "personal" banker at our Kiwi branch and asked if she could temporarily up the limit as a one off but having just picked up her reply today, she advises against it as it is an involved and complicated process.

Instead she suggested that we give her written authorisation to send the amount we need over to our BB account and she will arrange it directly and also, as a Christmas present, she will on this occasion waive any fees.

Imagine getting that kind of service in the UK?  Not a chance.
