British Telecom customers face a new round of price increases shortly, which will see the cost of daytime calls rise by 9%. It means the cost of making a call from a BT landline has soared by 40% in just over a year and the package of increases is likely to be followed by rival suppliers, say industry experts.
The standard call cost for BT’s 12 million customers, which was 5.4p a minute last April before a succession of rises, will go up again to 7.6p. BT is also putting up monthly line rental for the third time in a year. The figure will rise from £13.60 to £13.90, compared with £12.79 a year ago. Call connection fees and the cost of both the call minder service and standard broadband service are also being increased.
