Underestimated

It would appear that we have not allowed enough cash to cover our Thai visas, should we even be successful in our application.  Our good friend Ponarak in PP quoted us $35/visa  but he was closed on our arrival and we had to leave the next day.  We thought it would be easy to do it here in Siem Reap and while that is the case (there are dozens of travel agents all offering their services), the price is much higher.

For a one day turnaround we were quoted $nearly $55 and for the standard 5 days (don't forget the passports have to sent to PP) we had figures between $40 to $45.  Looks like Ponarak really was giving us the best offer of the lot.

Anyway, we have to wait until after the weekend before we chance our luck- we feel it's better to wait until the start of the new month before we try.  Our last application was in November 2010 but we have since been back on a freebie 30 day visa, so asking for a 60 day may be a little too much as the Thai authorities don't like people abusing the system.

I think we should be good though as we always do things by the book and this will also be our last visit of this year.  The rest of 2011 will be back in Europe with Izola beckoning for hopefully six months.  Don't worry, we'll keep you posted as to our progress on the visa front, but we're not taking anything for granted.
