Britain’s holidaymakers are planning to spend £153 billion on getaways this year- that's a 36% increase on what was spent ten years ago, with jetsetters splashing out almost £700 each on spending money compared with about £550 in 2001. Some 81% will take three holidays before the year is out.
Men will be putting their hand in their pocket the most as they plan to spend an average of £2 602 compared with £2 397 from women, while the number of those planning on travelling with their partners has increased from 28% in 2001 to 43% in 2011.
44% hope to have a break in Britain with 24% of those questioned planning a long-haul trip. Travellers in the 45 to 54 age range will fork out an average of £950 on spending money this year, a 40% rise on 2001. Only 12% will be tightening the purse strings, deciding to stay at home all year.
