The American v Alice in Wonderland

We hired both filums last night and they couldn't have been further apart in terms of enjoyment, believability or VFM.

The Steaming Turd

A nonsensical, mediocre mix between "The Day of the Jackal", "Pretty Woman",  "Leon" and a drying bucket of cement, this Italian tourist board movie sucked.  George Clooney doesn't cut it as an assassin-cum-gun-hobbyist- manufacturer, nor did the "plot" of him hiding out in a small rural village looking to retire from the business of killing people.  Utterly unbelievable, I can't think of one redeeming part of this drivel that justified my losing over 90 minutes of life to it.

Alice in Wonderland

Now we're talking.  Panned by critics (what do they know?) this mix of Wonderland meets Through the Looking Glass sees an older Alice return to her childhood haunts to do battle with the Jabberwocky.  A mash-up of several classic characters, the cast is super and I even like that butch, Bonham Carter burd, who rips off Blackadder's "Queenie" to a tee.  As ever Depp steals the show but for animation, imagination and inspiration, this was a treat.  Not for kids as it's far too dark, that is a real bonus as you get to scoff all your own popcorn.
