Getting Older

The 119th anniversary of the ice cream sundae has been marked by a suitable Google Doodle yesterday.

The world famous dessert, which is made using a combination of ice cream and syrup, was invented in 1892 by New York soda fountain proprietor Chester Platt, according to icecreamsundae.com.

The site explains that Platt took some ordinary ice-cream and covered it in cherry sauce and because he served it on a Sunday, he named it the Cherry Sunday.  Which explains why we spell it sundae...
