Having given the nod to Skype previously, wi-fi must get a mention too- especially as you'll need it to use the VOIP service. Without connection to the internet we'd be unable to plan our next trip, find accommodation, send emails, use the telephone, watch TV, update the Blog and 101 other things that are essential to keeping in touch in a modern world.
I swear I go cold turkey after just a couple of days without access to wi-fi and it's the first thing we insist on having at a hotel if we stay longer than a night or two.
