The Anise

We were advised that for the two nights they didn't have any standard rooms and so we took a double superior at US$ 47/night.  This is way off our comfort zone but PP is always bad VFM and we thought the extra would be worth it as we'd get a nice room.

As mentioned earlier, we were once again disappointed.

It's distinctly average in standard (not sure where the superiority is) but spacious enough and very clean.  Can't really offer much more on the positives as there's not much else.  The cable TV was just static and even I did a quick retune only offered us 5 hazy local channels.  Even the advertised flat screen TV had fallen off the wagon and had bloated out into a CRT.

The décor and furniture all lacked character (and youth) and the plumbing ensured we heard Niagra Falls descend into a tin barrel every time a nearby bog was flushed or a shower was taken.  The midnight serenade of the local dogs came as timely reminder it was getting late and their thoughtful encore at dawn gave us the heads up that breakfast was still only a couple of hours away.  (06:30 - 10:30 btw and I will be taking a look soon).

The wi-fi picked up straight away but is painfully slow (11 Mbps), the fridge works well but is noisy and the curtains while plush still allow light through to bath you in morning illumination, whether you want it or not.

We are also on the 4th floor and with no lift and eight sets of steep stairs to negotiate, it'll make up for the lack of pool or gym.

It's OK (they sorted out or TV channels and I watched the replay of Spurs v Everton {1-1} and  Conan the Barbarian to the tune of baying dogs) but not worth almost fifty notes and we'll be looking for better today as we arrange our transfer to Siem Reap.  We have three nights on our return so I'd prefer to pay less for better.

But that's PP, always more expensive without the justification.  Just like England, in fact.

Full review of the Anise at some point as we'll send it into TripAdvisor once I can be bothered- and no photos as I can't bearsed to unpack and find the camera,
